We are happy to share "The Other Side" campaign by Ascend that activated on LinkedIn today for you to be aware of the two sides of being Asian in the workforce and they centered the campaign around real stories from AAPI professionals sharing their invisible barriers.

Hear the message from Michelle Tang, CMO, Digitas North America below:

In a year where the Asian community has come together to speak out against hate, there is another place where we continue to face invisible barriers: the workplace. Even in advertising, we see the model minority myth happen day in and day out. Today, Ascend, the largest Pan-Asian business membership organization in North America, is sparking a much-needed conversation. Join us on LinkedIn to get this conversation going.

How to Get Involved

If you would like to join us to help launch The Other Side, change your headline on LinkedIn. Your participation will help bring awareness to the issues that AAPI professionals face in the workplace. Because when you shine a light on your truth, you brighten the future for everyone.

  1. Swap Out Your LinkedIn Cover Photo: click here to use this LinkedIn cover photo for your LinkedIn Profile

  2. Update Your LinkedIn Headline: use one of the 5 headlines:

    • Least likely to be promoted to C-Suite

    • Told I don’t act like a leader

    • Labeled as “the technical one”

    • Not heard in the workplace

    • Reduced to the “model minority”

    • Struggle to ask for what I deserve

  3. Share Your Other Side Story: create a post about your Other Side story with your LinkedIn connections, tag Ascend Leadership on LinkedIn and use #TheOtherSide #AscendLeadership #AscendTogether

The Other Side Campaign

On one Side, AAPI professionals seem well-represented. We’re highly employed and we’re high earners. But on the Other Side, long-held bias toward our community makes us less likely to be promoted to leadership levels. Consequentially, only 2% of C-level roles, 4.6% of executive roles, and 5.9% of managerial roles are held by AAPI people. Our goal is to shine a light on the Other Side and spark much needed change in corporate America.
