Today, I Cried

by Bernice Chao

As I woke up to numerous messages asking if I had seen what happened in the news in Atlanta I quickly checked CNN and saw that more AAPI hate crimes had occurred. I found myself gripping my phone with tears streaming down my face, unable to get out of bed.

I share this because as Asians we are often taught not to show vulnerability or “saving face” and being in a pandemic it feels so isolating to hear all these stories within a vacuum and not be able to commiserate with others in person. The violence must end, change must happen, so healing can begin.
